Meta, facebook parent company sacks 3600 employees

Just from November till now, Mark and Meta, the parent company of Facebook have made changes to their policies that made many to wonder what actually is happening.

The CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has made know his plan to sack  approximately 3,600 employees, a 5% of its total workforce,  This recent announcement has sent ripples through the tech industry, a decision which is part of Meta's strategy to prepare for what Zuckerberg anticipates will be an "intense year" ahead.

..intense years ahead?

The layoffs will primarily target low-performing employees accoring to the social media giant CEO, with the aim of raising the bar on performance management. Zuckerberg emphasized the need to expedite the process of moving out underperformers to ensure that Meta retains its best talent. This move is seen as a response to the company's ambitious projects in artificial intelligence, smart glasses, and the future of social media.

In addition to the workforce reduction, Meta has decided to end its third-party fact-checking program. Instead, the company will adopt a community-driven model similar to Elon Musk's platform, X, where users provide more context to posts. This change comes amid criticism of excessive censorship on Meta's platforms and aims to reduce reliance on automated filters.

Meta has also made significant changes to its content moderation policies. The company now allows users to claim LGBTQ+ identities as "mental illnesses" based on political and religious discourse3. This controversial move has sparked outrage among employees and advocacy groups, who argue that it normalizes hate speech and undermines inclusivity.

Furthermore, Meta has loosened its rules around what people can say on its platforms, allowing more criticism of marginalized groups such as immigrants, transgender individuals, and non-binary people. This policy shift has been met with strong opposition, with critics arguing that it could lead to increased hate speech and a less inclusive atmosphere.

Cosindering that these policies are coming just before presidentTrump is inaugurated into office for his second non-consecutive 4 year term in less a week, one would wonder if Meta and Mark are preparing for Trump presidency, perhans intense t4 year term as described by the 40 years old CEO.

In the coming weeks, months and perhaps years, one will see if these are actualy business and operational decisions within Meta or an alignment to the stance of Mr. Trump on many issues, particular social media free speech and censorship.
