To tackle this issue, many regions and towns in Italy have started programs to bring in new residents. Basically, they’re offering to pay people to live there.

Calabria Offers $31,000 To Attract New Residents To Small towns and Villages.

Calabria’s ‘Reddito di Residenza Attiva’ program gives up to €20,000 ($22,000) to people willing to move to small mountain towns and villages with less than 3,000 people.  

To qualify for this opportunity, those with interests and willing to relocate must be under 40 years old. They are also required to start a small business and move to Calabria within 90 days of approval. They are reuired to also  change their residency officially to the chosen town/village in Calabria.

This program has gained attention both in Italy and internationally. Approved participants can receive monthly payments of €800 to €1,000 for a period of 2 to 3 years. Alternatively, they can opt for a one-time lump sum to help fund their own business ventures.

 
Sardinia Offers Money To Fix Or Buy Houses


The island of Sardinia provides grants that don’t need to be paid back for anyone who buys or renovates homes in towns with fewer than 3,000 residents. Recipients Must Register Residency Within 18 Months
To qualify, recipients need to register as residents within 18 months of buying a property. What then is the aim of this program? This prgram is aimed at bringing people back to rural areas and boosting the lives of local residents. 

 

Emilia Romagna Offers Up To $33,000 For Young Professionals


In Emilia Romagna, young people under 40 can get grants of up to €30,000 ($33,000) depending on their family income. This money is for those living and working in small towns, and it’s designed to attract young professionals and families to the less crowded areas of the region.

 
Abruzzo Pays Families To Move To Nature-Filled Villages


The central region of Abruzzo offers families €2,500 ($2,750) a year to relocate to small villages in mountain areas with fewer than 3,000 people. At least one family member must register as a resident and live there for at least five years.

 
Veneto’s Spa Town Offers $22,000 To Home Buyers


The small spa town of Recoaro Terme in Veneto is giving grants of €20,000 ($22,000) for anyone buying or renovating a home. Renters can also get €200 ($220) per month towards their housing costs. To qualify, recipients must transfer their residency to the town.
